FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Pain and Pain Management:

  • How painful is getting a tattoo? Pain tolerance varies, but most people find tattoos to be very tolerable. You can always discuss with your artist which areas are more of less painful than others.

  • Can I use pain relievers or numbing creams? Numbing cream is not recommended as it makes applying the stencil, doing the tattoo, and aftercare all more challenging. For the very best work, please forego any numbing cream.

2. Cost and Scheduling:

  • How much does a tattoo cost? Prices vary greatly depending on the size, complexity, and artist. All pricing is flat rate, rather than hourly, so you'll know the exact cost before booking. There is a $100 minimum for all tattoo work.

  • Do I need a consultation? The vast majority of consultations are handled via email, which gives our artists the ability to work with clients before they arrive in Mexico.

  • How long does it take to get a tattoo? The time varies greatly, with small tattoos taking a few minutes to an hour and larger, more intricate ones potentially taking multiple sessions.

3. Healing and Aftercare:

  • How long does it take for a tattoo to heal? The healing process usually takes a few weeks, but it varies from person to person.

  • What should I do after getting a tattoo? Follow the artist's aftercare instructions, which typically include keeping the tattoo clean, moisturized, and protected from sunlight. You'll receive both verbal written aftercare instructions following the tattoo.

  • Is it okay if my tattoo peels? Yes, some peeling is normal as the skin heals.

  • Can I swim after my tattoo appointment? Yes! We recognize that many of our clients combine their tattoo appointment with a vacation. We do our best to schedule you at the end of your stay, but we also provide waterproof sani-derm bandages which enable you to swim afterwards.

4. Safety and Health Concerns:

5. Design and Artistic Process:

  • How do I show my tattoo artist the tattoo I want? Your artist will be in contact via email throughout the process. If you'd like to share any images, you can use the email contact provided. While we won't copy someone else's work, we can always make something similar for you.

  • Can I bring my own design or get a custom one? Both options are common, and our artists often collaborate with clients to create unique designs. We will not copy another tattoo design verbatim, but can discuss potential modifications to make something uniquely yours.

  • How do I choose a tattoo artist? Research artists' portfolios, check reviews, and see if their style aligns with your vision. When booking here at Migrations you can select one or multiple artists and your receive cost and availability for each artist, which might help you choose.
